How Do I Know If My Thread Path Is Correct?

PUBLISHED

Threading your machine properly ensures that all thread safely and efficiently passes through each transition point without any issues. Improper threading can lead to issues such as skipped stitches, looping, thread breakage, and bird-nesting.

To make sure your thread path is correct, follow this checklist:

1. Make sure the thread rack is at the highest position.

2. Make sure the order of spools on the rack always corresponds to the order of the needles they are attached to. (For example, the first spool of thread is threaded with the first needle and so on.)

3. The threads should always go through the correct eyelet on the thread rack and follow through the tension knob.

4. Check if the thread passes under the tension knob and place it inside the pin. If it is not inside the pin, please re-thread.

5. Make sure the thread is not wrapped around any tension knobs twice or more. The most the thread should be wrapped is a half-turn around the sensor wheel.

6. Make sure the thread goes inside the spring bar and comes back up to the take-up lever.

7. When threading the take-up lever, the thread should always go from right to left and then back down through the spring bar eyelet.

8. Once all the steps above are complete, pass the thread through the main needle eyelet from front to back.

9. Finally, pass the thread under the presser foot and attach the thread to the spring above.
